Carer’s Allowance

Carer’s Allowance is payable to carer’s looking after a sick or disabled individual. To qualify for Carer’s Allowance the carer must be looking after someone who is in receipt of either Attendance Allowance or the middle or higher care component of Disability Living Allowance. They must care for the individual for at least 35 hours per week and not earn more than £100 a week from paid work. Carer’s Allowance cannot be paid as well as Retirement Pension or other earnings replacement benefits including contributory Job Seekers Allowance, Incapacity Benefit or Employment & Support Allowance.
