Statutory Sick Pay

Statutory Sick Pay is paid to employees by their employers for up to 28 weeks in any period of sickness lasting 4 or more days. The benefit is not dependant on national insurance contributions, but the individual must earn at least £109 per week and is taxable. Unemployed and self employed people are not covered by Statutory Sick Pay. If the individual is unable to get Statutory Sick Pay they may be able to claim Employment & Support Allowance instead.
